The draw for final phase of the 2002 FIFA World Cup (tm) competition, which took place in Japan and South Korea between 31 May and 30 June 2002, took place in Busan, South Korea on 1 December 2001. The 29 nations that qualified through the preliminary competition joined Japan and Korea as co-hosts and France as the last winners of the competition in this draw.

The draw for the preliminary competition of the 2002 FIFA World Cup (tm) competition the final tournament of which will be held in Japan and Korea took place at the Tokyo International Forum on 7 December 1999. Japan and Korea as co-hosts and France as the last winners of the competition qualify automatically. The remaining 198 nations will be competing for the right to qualify for one of the remaining 29 places.
