• The 8 group winners and the 2 best runner-ups will qualify directly.

• The remaining 6 runner-ups will be drawn against each other for 3 play-off matches (on a home-and-away basis) to determine the other three qualifiers for the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany (tm).
